LOBOTOMY
Satanic Speed Metal Ritual
(Heavy Forces Records)
33:32min

Again a perfectly packaged vinyl from Heavy Forces plus sticker, poster as additional treats already sets a positive tone for Malaysian satanic Speed Metallers LOBOTOMY whose song titles alone tell you what’s the name of the game here: ‘Hell’s Metal Brigade’, ‘Speed Metal Warfare’, ‘Speed Metal Breakdown’, ‘Underground Thrash Killer’, ‘Metal Is Religion’ – any questions, folks? Formed in 2010 as MOTORBREATH but quickly getting tired of the name, “Satanic Speed Metal Ritual” is the band’s 2012 debut and is easily accessible for maniacs hot for stuff in the vein of SABBAT (JP), ABIGAIL. Of corpse it comes along with that trademark amusing, awkward pronunciation and “overtrue” lyrics – you know these Does he really sing “we’re fuckers of Metal”? kinda moments – and out of control snarled vocals. Soundwise – raw, yet powerful – and visually – axecellent cover art yet rather shabby, too modern logo – there’s hardly anything else to complain about. While this unintentionally amateurish black / thrashing style has been somewhat overdone in recent years, “Satanic Speed Metal Ritual” will certainly find a lot appreciation by people who go nuts on the previously mentioned acts or the likes of METALUCIFER. Musically, this is way deeper rooted in early punkish Thrash than classic Heavy Metal though. Being a bit drunk while listening to the album might improve your personal experience with this record immensely and overall these 33 minutes are just plain, braindead fun. Nothing to impress the guys down at post-metal-math-core-prog-university with, but you will definitely ruin their weekly sit-in when putting on this racket.
