Now how cool stuff is this…?! MACHETE, this new Finnish 5-piece heavily grooving and thrashy Metal act, featuring 3 guys from the Finnish Thrashers MOKOMA for example, could be considered as some sort of retro – Thrash / Death – trip back to the early days of both ENTOMBED and SLAYER in a somewhat peculiar way indeed! Just think of ENTOMBED playing SLAYER songs with a heavier and thrashier vibe – or allow your mind to imagine how the Slayer – dudes would sound like if they took a bit more deathly approach for their songs without losing their own trademarkish sound? Shouldn’t be too hard to imagine, I guess… Right from the first song ‘Lost For Words’ you are about to become very familiar with MACHETE’s tendency to sound like a badly-behaving bastard child of a riff-tastic marriage of both ENTOMBED and SLAYER. Groovily heavy and thrashy riffs, sinfully catchy and familiar yet well-executed metallic moments from the camps of the two abovementioned bands, Tuomos’ (one of the guitarist in MOKOMA) nearly L.G. Petrov / Araya – type of vocal parts, etc. – all these things together, do well justification to MACHETE’s shameless attempt to bring things back to the basic, I mean, old school Metal sounds. The next / last two songs off this promo called ‘Turned To Dust’ and ‘Inward Spiral’ only keep on reminding me why I have always been digging bands like SLAYER and ENTOMBED since their first albums up to their latest efforts. MACHETE is simply riff-tastically a fantastic and skilled band – and I believe even they seem to be aware of their own potentiality for being able to offer of already this strong caliber of Thrash / Death – shit for anyone who also happens to find bands from ENTOMBED to SLAYER to their likings. This stuff – saying it straight from my sincere and honest heart, convinced me right from the first moments of ‘Lost For Words’ to the last vocal grunt in ‘Inward Spiral’. Predicting the future ain’t easy task to anyone, that’s for sure – but I can already see something good happening to MACHETE by the end of the year… Contact: juha.javanainen@valvegroup.com, website: www.the-machete.com
