MORTAR
Trapped In A Rotten World
(self-financed)
27:01min

Finnish MORTAR sticks to the template of old school Death Metal which is honestly the best Death Metal that you can lend your ears to. The intro sets a beautiful pace to the album, simple punchy, crushing riffs that take you deeper into the sound. Well, the snare does stand outside the wall of sound, but it doesn’t cause much trouble. MORTAR lean onto established pace, riffs and songwriting skills that provide no gap for complaints. By track # 3 ‘Reptile Brain’, the drum sounds even and adds a good bottom. “Trapped In A Rotten World” is standard quality Finnish Death Metal that you will not mind at all. There are no elements of anything modern here, so old school fans will surely enjoy this new MORTAR release. I suppose MORTAR will make for a phenomenal live band and I’d sure love to see them. The guitars are tight, the bass stands on its own, the drums take a moment but fit into the scheme eventually. Track # 4 ‘Distress Signal’ is my favorite off this EP. It’s the standard pub Metal track and you’d enjoy it immensely with your mates and beers. With the EP just at 27 minutes, MORTAR manages to pack in a good punchy slice of Finnish Death Metal from start to finish.
