A big surprise for me is the new and second album of German hopefuls in melodic / gothic Death Metal NAILED TO OBSCURITY from Esens / Lower Saxony. Perfect for Autumn time the 9 tracks take you on a depressed and dark trip. The opener ‘Innerme’ is a strong melodic mix reminding me of newer OCTOBER TIDE with a small touch of DARK TRANQUILLITY or OPETH. The follower ‘Torn To Shreds’ shows the strength and beauty of the band. Melodic dark symphonies in the vein of KATATONIA in times of "For Funerals To Come" or "Brave Murder Day", never sounding like a copy as they have their own unique interpretation of their influences. Modern sounding hooklines and melodies, harsh growls mixed with whispered vocals really touch you deep inside and help to feel the pain in ‘Mythomania’. The clear and powerful production of Lasse Lammert / LSD Studios, Lübeck fits perfect to the sound of the band, often reminds me of productions of Doom / Death bands in the 90s. ‘In Vain’ shows faster riffing in the beginning and brilliant worked out guitar melodies. ‘On The Verge Of Collapse’ slows down again and dooms you into the deep of inner struggle. ‘Sealed’ with a true gothic melody and ‘Drift’ are songs, PARADISE LOST would like to have included on "Shades Of God", with touches of "For Funerals To Come". A brilliant album on heavy rotation in my player. Hopefully we do not need to wait another 6 years for more. www.facebook.com/nailedtoobscurity, label: www.apostasyrecords.com
