The first and only surprise on this EP is the line-up. I suspected at first a band with four or five members, but in fact NEBRUS is a duo, consisting of Mortifero, handling all instruments and Nocturia, responsible for vocals. Yes, your intuition is correct, Nocturia is a female vocalist. But gladly no clean singing or other monkey business awaits you. Deep growling directly from the crypts, recorded with echo / reverb effect, some spoken parts remind me of chorals. If you are a Black Metal follower you have definitely heard this vocals style before and the music has the same root of evil. Mostly fast and even faster drums team up with aggressive tremolo guitars. Together with the vocals the atmosphere is both evil, aggressive and sinister, but at the same time sacral. Of course more unholy and unhallowed. Every moment of this EP is total worship of "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" by MAYHEM. The Italian duo adopted the style of this album so perfectly, it leaves me breathless. Adopted, not imitated or simulated, which means no copycat or rip-off. At every moment you realize it is not MAYHEM, but all songs are so excellent regarding songwriting and sound, each one is one the same level like the tracks of "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas". Of course Attila Csihar’s vocals are unique, but if anyone would have told me that the five songs (plus intro) were some left-overs from MAYHEM I would have believed that without hesitation. NEBRUS are active for eight years and released an album in 2012 which I do not know (yet). So I do not know how their earlier recordings sound like, but "Blackera" is some of the finest traditional Black Metal I have been listening to for a long time.
