We got ourselves a bit of an odd one here, even just looking at the cover art itself gives a hint of the sound contained. The album starts off well enough with a Black Metal sound, similiar to CARPATHIAN FOREST and CRAFT. This is predominat through the first four songs, but then things get a tad different has you go along. Which could be an issue for some, because it did bother me a bit. As the album progresses you get some shouted Thrash like background vocals over the singers Deathcore like shouts. Sometimes the music gets sort of Prog like or bit off kilter and I’m wondering what type of sound is the band shooting for? I will give props to vocalist Stefan Rindler for taking a varied approach to the songs and endowing them with more feeling and emotion. It’s just that they are a bit all over the place in the songwriting department. They are not bad by any means, and like the previous sound comparison that I made, they are like a bit more esoteric CRAFT with a slight Deathcore sound. Also, if I had to pick a fave moment on this release, it would be the last track ‘Sternenleichen’. With the varied vocal approach and the eerie mood inducing feel of the song, it evokes a dark atmosphere, very reminiscent of FORGOTTEN TOMB. A good way to end the CD for me. The production is great and you can hear all instruments clearly, so they all have a say in the sound of the songs. Also, from some brief research that I did, they at one point had two vocalists and an even more off-kilter sound. Maybe with the change to a sole vocalist and such, the band adjusted their sound a bit. Give them a look over, see what you think. www.facebook.com/nekrodeus, www.facebook.com/fdarec
