NYKTALGIA
Peisithanatos

NYKTALGIA’s self-titled debut was greeted with thunderous applause four years ago. This second album, "Peisithanatos", is a continuation of that formula. Normally, depressive Black Metal does anything but depress. The likes of XASTHUR and the world wide army of MUTIILATION worshippers have, instead, crafted some of the cheesiest, most boring music the Metal world has ever known. NYKTALGIA are, unfortunately for them, name dropped rather frequently in the depressed crowd, and for good reason. The reason being that the band plays a developmental variant of Black Metal, not Byronic crap. NYKTALGIA are like STRID. They’ve taken the groundwork and done something admirable which is sad considering they’re relatively new. The music, as the reader may have gathered, is long, repetetive, somewhat monotonous, but never tedious. The simplistic picking, wide open riffiing, and steady drum beat are highly evocative and yes, beautiful. www.no-colours-records.de
