PERIPHERAL CORTEX
Rupture

Berlin! Not only annual host of the soccer cup final but also home of a vivid Metal scene. Okay, it is not really surprising some of the three and a half million people living there are into Metal. PERIPHERAL CORTEX are active for three years by now and it seems like the band is definitely more than just some guys jamming around. The two tracks were professionally recorded and mixed, the vocals even in the famous Sound Lab studio by Harris Johns. If a studio in Germany deserves the term legendary, than this one. The press kit the band is offering is also very professional, with biography and photos included. Standard one might think, but there are still bands out there writing just a few words asking for a review and nothing more. But back to PERIPHERAL CORTEX and the two songs of "Rupture". The band is dedicated to technical or progressive Death Metal. When I hear the term progressive and technical I always have one apprehension – endless soloing. Guitar, bass guitar, drums, maybe even keyboard solos. But luckily the four guys are writing actually real songs, the short running time of tight five minutes for each track underlines that the music itself is not getting lost in endless egoistic instrumental worship. "No special FX were used on vocals" is printed on the back sleeve. Calm down, the vocals are brutal and well-done, but they are not that superior or phenomenal that this hint is needed. Everyone interested into technical Death Metal should hear for himself by visiting https://peripheralcortex.bandcamp.com or www.facebook.com/peripheralcortex
