Thermonuclear Epiphany
(Caverna Abismal Records)

PERPETRATÖR comes from Portugal, a country rarely associated with good Thrash Metal, but these guys are about to change this perception. This cassette version (limited to 200 copies) of "Thermonuclear Epiphany" which I’m dissecting here was released by Caverna Abismal Records, while Stormspell and Dark Lore Records took care of the CD version. So in my paws I have a die-hard analog copy, which sounds just great and contains 9 tracks of no-frills, fast, aggressive and headbanging Thrash Metal. Obviously these guys aren’t novices when it comes to playing Metal, they’ve also been playing with bands like FILII NIGRANTIUM INFERNALIUM, RAVENSIRE, OMISSION and others, so there’s no doubt about playing abilities. "Thermonuclear Epiphany" offers the whole spectrum of Thrash Metal, the songs are varied and definitely not formulaic, far from it. You’ve got fast, bone breaking thrashers like ‘Pyres In The Night’ or SLAYER-esque ‘Doomed To Death’, but also there are longer, more involved, mid-paced songs where their NWOBHM influences come shinging through, for example on the brilliant ‘Fire Unleashed’ and ‘Shadow Of A Man’. The sound isn’t over-polished, the mix is clear but still bloody raw, in fact PERPETRATÖR is all about old school Speed / Thrash Metal sound (Teutonic style!!!), so I won’t be dropping too many other bands’ names here, but the singer’s voice reminds me of the mix between Schmier (DESTRUCTION) and Tom Angleripper (SODOM) – you know, raspy, hateful and tearing shit off the walls! After a few listens you want more and more, so this is a sign of a good Thrash Metal. Damn, those riffs and solos are face melting for sure and the energy is overflowing with lava!! And without any hesitation whatsoever, I recommend you to check these Portuguese Thrashers as fast as you can and see if you still can grab this limited tape. They’ve also just released a split 7" EP with none other than mighty HELLBASTARD, so you might wanna hunt for that as well.,
