In the last 6 months or so I’ve been exposed to some great Metal bands from Turkey. It seems their scene is thriving and there are a bunch of bands doing great things. PERSECUTORY is one of those bands. Their debut EP "Perversion Feeds Our Force" was released in 2016. And now, released through the excellent Polish label Godz Ov War Productions, we have their first full length, "Towards The Ultimate Extinction".In my humble opinion, Black / Thrash Metal has never been innovative beyond the basics (or "requirements") of the genre. Dare I say that if you have listened to AURA NOIR, you pretty much have covered what this style of music has to offer. And that is where bands like PERSECUTORY come into play. They have taken the basic sound and infused it with some new and old influences which aids a lot when differentiating from all the other bands. Especially, the aura on this record is dank and foul. It has that classic Black Metal trait where simple, yet powerful riffs, dominate the landscape of every song. Add solid and wild Thrash Metal rhythm patterns and you have a great combination of darkness and relentlessness. And it seems the production is also set in an specific era, say 1985. The mix is well balanced, with the vocals pushed back a little, with lots of delay. By doing this, the vocal performance becomes a part of the score and the atmosphere the instruments set. The drums are a tad muffled, the guitar / bass tone are crunchy and raw. So, the album as a whole fits perfectly in their style of music. PERSECUTORY is one of those bands that can only improve.
