The Chilean outfit PROCESSION has been active since 2008. My first exposure to their work was their amazing debut album "Destroyers Of The Faith". Their style of Doom Metal brought to mind huge names such as CANDLEMASS, SOLITUDE AETERNUS, TROUBLE and MERCYFUL FATE. I hate comparions, but in this case, they are a must. It must be said that PROCESSION is no copycat, but an updated version of said bands with their own twist. "To Reap Heavens Apart", their second album, kept their style almost intact adding better vocals and interesting lyrical concepts. Their third and latest album, "Doom Decimation" released by High Roller Records, marks a huge step for PROCESSION. The evolution is obvious and very welcomed. This time they have incorporated new elements that make their music a lot more interesting. The atmosphere in this album differs a lot from their previous works, in my humble opinion. Memorable riffs that evoke infinite barren landscapes mixed with some of the best melodic vocal lines I have heard in years. The feeling of epic-ness is boosted by the oppressing strength of the excellent songwriting. The production is thick and heavy yet the mix is clear and dynamic. The softer passages have such a smooth feeling in contrast with the pummeling riffs, which range from a funeral march like density to the hopeful soundtrack of a new dawn. PROCESSION’s rhythm section, Claudio Botarro (bass) and Uno Bruniusson (drums), is as solid as one can ask for. Both of them have a very clever execution of their respective instruments, providing the perfect backbone to Jonas Pedersen’s and Felipe Plaza’s guitar work. Now, Felipe’s vocal delivery is simply amazing. The vocal lines bleed passion and strength. A perfect fit for the band’s music; the icing on the cake, as some may say. Overall, PROCESSION’s music evoke a monumental and ominous feeling that can’t be matched easily. And I think they have earned their rightful place in the annals of Doom and Heavy Metal.
