Death Is Something There Between

REEK is a new project consisting of HÃ¥kan Stuvemark of WOMBBATH and Rogga Johansson. The guys both have a long history in the world of OSDM. They joined forces to present their own creation between the classic HM-2 sound and Death’n’Roll in the vein of ENTOMBED’s mid 90s era. The opener ‘Condemned By The Hands Of Pain’ is an uptempo crusher with all classic trademarks and a filthy note of AUTOPSY. ‘Flesh Golem’ goes straight into the Death’n’Roll direction and is pretty catchy with its groove and sharp leads and its good solo. Even the vocals could be from L.G. himself and fit pretty good into the overall concept. ‘Gold In Your Throat’ with its memorable melody line, ‘Horror Waltz’ or ‘A Matter Of Time’ deliver all solid material with good solos and riffing, good drumming and even better production. The only weakness is that there is nothing new to explore what ENTOMBED, CONVULSE or DESULTORY have not delivered back in the mid 90s when all of them left the classic sound behind in favour of the new born Death’n’Roll bastard. Nevertheless due to the short running time the album is definitely worth a listen as it is a pretty enjoying and diverting trip back into the mid 90s and that is enough for me to enjoy the material and recommend it to you lunatics out there.
