From the first moment I heard the album title I was interested in writing a review. Because the German term “Doppelherz”, literally translated “double heart”, is also the title of a medicine sold here in Germany. Some kind of vital tonic which is said to improve your cardiovascular system. It has been a running gag for most time of my live when something nerve-racking happens someone says that a deep swallow from the pulp of “Doppelherz” is needed. There are also capsules containing garlic, mistletoe and hawthorn. Do not worry, this is not going to be a patient information leaflet, but I just wanted to make it clear what thoughts and feelings a single word can trigger. REVEAL!, written with exclamations mark, are already active since 2006 and from the very beginning the band from Sweden defies any classification. Blackened Death Metal, Death Rock, Gothic Post Rock or Psychedelic Black Metal. “Doppelherz” is album number four and it seems to me the only constant in the band’s work is change and conversion. For me it is almost impossible to describe the music. It is like the cover artwork. You can see something, but it’s difficult to describe what you see. Free floating rhythm patterns, alternating vocals, guitar riffs and melodies evoking feelings of despair, loneliness but also epic moments. A rewarding experience for sure, although if I have to say that there is a problem with a very crucial point. The recognition value is, at least for me, not very pronounced. If a band sets out to shake up the listener’s emotional world and then at the end of the day only a kind of easy listening comes out, something may has gone wrong. Nevertheless, try to find out for yourself by visiting the band’s or label’s site which can be found at these locations: www.facebook.com/revealswe, www.facebook.com/sepulchralvoicerecords
