RÜYYN
Chapter II: The Flames, The Fallen, The Fury
(Les Acteurs De L'Ombre Productions)
42:38min

RÜYYN is a one man band from France. The project is run by Romain Paulet, who’s also a member of NATREMIA. “Chapter II: The Flames, The Fallen, The Fury” is the second release by RÜYYN, but the first fatigue in the long distance, always on Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions. There is no chapter I, but the naming of the songs goes in continuity with what was made for the first EP named ‘Rüyyn’. In fact the album is composed by six tracks or better said by six parts – no subtitles of explanations, just ‘Part I’, ‘Part II’ and so on. This choice evocates a certain aura of mystery. Unlike the ‘Rüyyn’ EP, whose artwork is very freezing, the cover of “Chapter II: The Flames, The Fallen, The Fury” is evocative of a hot but suffering atmosphere – just like an ambient of destruction and desolation that welcomes the listener into a suffering dimension. In a previous review I’ve written that in Black Metal, our job as reviewers is to guide our readers among a lot of releases and to identify great or good albums – I don’t want to repeat myself, but I have to make clear that, in my opinion, we have one of the best Black Metal full length debut albums of the last years here and of course this is definitely a great album. I would describe RÜYYN’s sound as a combination of Black Metal, melodic Black Metal, epic Black Metal and atmospheric Black Metal. And this is what characterized this album the most and made it a valuable work that will meet lots of musical taste. I can hear a deep research in the writing in order to find the perfect mix among all the sounds. The screams are harsh and suggestive surrounded by guitar parts that are always on spot and a rhythm section that is very pounding when it comes to go aggressive and the perfect accompaniment when it comes to be more atmospheric. The length of the songs is seven minutes in average and this enables them to expand their sound among different compositions of various kinds and some atmospheric interludes. RÜYYN confirmed the good job they had done with the first EP and even exceeded the expectations for the first full length.
