Black Reign

In Metal as in life you meet at least twice and the last cooperation of Peter Tägtgren and Emperor Magus Caligula is responsible for one of the best Death Metal releases ever – HYPOCRISY’s “Osculum Obscenum”. Fifteen years later the Swedish terror commando SANCTIFICATION has summoned both maniacs for the recording of their second release “Black Reign”. The album has been recorded in the famous or infamous (depends on your personal opinion) Abyss studio so the participation of Mr.Hyopcrisy is quite clear. Mr.Dark Funeral on the other side has supported the band with some background vocals but shortly after the release of “Black Reign” he officially joined their ranks. Musically the album is offering brutal Death Metal with a slightly Black Metal touch and the playing time of only half an hour is more than an indication for the high speed character of the presented nine songs. The band was founded in 2001 and their only release “Misanthropic Salvation” published via German label Remission Records in 2003 never reached my castle in the fog. But “Black Reign” is a solid release mainly due to two major points. One factor is without doubt the very good sound which should be no surprise on the other hand is the band in the position to avoid a high speed massacre with all songs nearly sounding similar due the enormous speed level. So the second SANCTIFICATION release is for sure not a new “Osculum Obscenum” but nevertheless a good album which should be more than just interesting – especially for all the DISMEMBER maniacs out there. www.pulverised.net, www.myspace.com/sanctificationband
