Ok, I gotta admit that these guys used to be completely unknown to me prior to this album, so I can’t eally tell you much details about them. But as it’s a selftitled release I suppose this is SERPENT OBSCENE’s debut full length – and a really promising one! These five Swedish youngsters deliver a very intense Death / Thrash mixture with SLAYER / DARK ANGEL – like riffing and raw growling vocals. This is exactly the album that I had hoped their label – and country mates MAZE OF TORMENT would come up with. Crushing from start to finish! ‘Evil Rites’ is my personal fave and with its catchy and easy to shout along chorus line predestinated to become a crowd favorite! I’m not completely convinced by the vocals yet, but they are still more enjoyable than all those typical and rather faceless screamy type ones that thousands of other bands are using these days. So, all in all this has become a highly entertaining, totally devastating debut, which (just like SLAYER’s “Reign In Blood”) also comes up with a short yet very effective playing time beyond the 30 minutes mark.
