SKELETHAL / INISANS

Here is another fine release from a very fine label. Caligari Records presents us two rookies from the old continent with their first demo recordings. From Northern France, right at the border to Belgium, comes the duo SKELETHAL, that consists of two members from the quite established Thrash Metal act INFINITE TRANSLATION, who released two albums to date. INISANS are from out of the Swedish nowhere, Storfors to be more precise. Both bands released their first demos in 2012. Now these recordings by two hopefuls are available as a joint force of European Death again. First we have SKELETHAL with their demo "Morbid Ovation". Like a lot of older bands from France, this duo play their Metal of Death with a certain edge of Thrash, so it’s no wonder that the demo also features a cover of ‘Show Me The Wrath’, a SEPULTURA classic from days of very old. But SKELETHAL’s original songs have to offer more than this (well done) cover. They carry the charm of the days, when Metal of Death was still in the early stages of its development. Technical skills weren’t that important, for it was the spirit that counted. Clear productions were sacrificed for sheer brutality. That’s why "Morbid Ovation" appeals to me and my special predilection for simple and pure stuff. Listening to the stuff from INISANS, the calender in my head also automatically switches back to the year 1991. Here I find myself listening to those old records and demos that came out of the Swedish Death Metal underground. INISANS may be quite a stereotype, it’s hard to deny that they are not very original, but they also do great as hell! The recently re-released GRAVE demos come to mind very quick, NIHILIST and CARNAGE too. From the opener ‘Welcome To Hell’ to the closing title track ‘Morbid Vision Of Death’, every second is pure joy of Death. Simple, yet not primitive, rough and rude, garnished with a raw production and those leads we all love about this music. That’s the way I like it! The tape comes with an exchangeable folder with one side for each band and the songs are also alternating, which means more fun listening to them. It’s stuff like this that makes me want to collect tapes again… As usual for Caligiari Records, the tape is strictly limited to 100 copies, so be quick or be dead.
