SOILWORK
A Predator's Portrait

This new generation of Swedish Death Metal with acts like DARKANE, GARDENIAN, THE FORSAKEN, CARNAL FORGE, TERROR 2000 and SOILWORK is seriously coming up with impressive quality releases lately! This six-piece act from the Southern part of the country has done quite some vast step forwards lately and now already comes up with their strong third studio album entitled “A Predator’s Portrait” for their new label Nuclear Blast after their deal with Listenable Records ran out. Once again, SOILWORK manage to capture the savage aggression of bands like AT THE GATES in crystal clear, pounding production and mix it with a very astonishing instrumental performance (yeah, some of the fantastic guitarwork in riffs and leads indeed still reminds you on Mr. Amott & ARCH ENEMY) as well as a quite massive modern wall of sound that could be inspired by the likes of STRAPPING YOUNG LAD. The impressive thing about SOILWORK is that the huge amount of technical elements nevertheless never leads the catchy songwriting astray and especially in terms of vocals, this must be their best album to date: The range between wild screams, outstanding hooklines, some groovy clean vocals as well melancholic passages supported by constant but still quite suitable keyboard playing is pretty impressive and makes each of the 10 featured songs to a special adventure for the listener. Chances for SOILWORK to finally establish in today’s scene couldn’t be better with such a monster of an album as “A Predator’s Portrait”!!! An excellent release that deserves your full attention in case you are into the melodic new breed of Death Metal…
