Now this really caught me off-guard. Having never heard of this outfit hailing from the land of Hummppa, Eurovision-Hardrock and Teen-Metal before, I was quite surprised to experience such a first class Death Metal offering. SOTAJUMALA are not exactly following the path laid down by all the legendary finish acts back in the early nineties but perform a style comparable to newer MORBID ANGEL, ca. “Gateways…” era. Massive grooves, catchy yet brutal, not really dark but dominating never the less. Of special note are the carefully crafted solos, certainly a lot of effort put in there, which sadly enough has become rather exceptional. They’re not stuck in one-dimensional blast-beat monotony and at the same time avoid the cheap rehash of past days glories by sticking to worn out formulas of yore. The sound is crushing, powerful and refreshing like few have delivered in recent time. And although there are no real standout tracks the overall level is way above average.
