STENCH OF DECAY
Visions Beyond Death
(Detest Records)

After a quite good demo, STENCH OF DECAY strikes back with their first EP. The heavy guitars sustain and hooking riffs are still there. ‘Vision Beyond Death’ starts as a typical mid tempo Death Metal anthem. As soon as the voice comes in it spontaneously reminds of DEMIGOD’s ‘Dead Soul’ on the classic "Slumber Of Sullen Eyes" album. Same goes for ‘The Endless Void’, yet the guitar solo at the beginning of the song gives a quite good touch to the morbid vibe surrounding the record. So you can understand that there are much worse influences or comparisons in the world, but it also might be the "weak" point of this quite good Death Metal offering. It sometimes bears a too strong mark of the predecessors. I would need a slight emancipation from the roots to fully enjoy this offering. Don’t get me wrong though. It is a very solid record, and those who like their Death Metal without big surprises might be delighted. I just miss this little hard to describe spark to get fully into it. Still, those who enjoyed the demo will surely find their lethal dose of good old Death Metal with this new EP. www.myspace.com/stenchofdecay, www.detestrecords.com
