The record label is praising TARAN as "kult horde in the Polish Underground", but I guess that is just the usual ballyhoo. After 13 years the band is finally releasing a full-length, before there have been only a demo, a split CD with MOONTOWER and a limited cassette called "Live Chaos" with BESATT and DET GAMLE BESATT. By the way, DET GAMLE BESATT features the original line-up who created the band BESATT in 1991, whereas BESATT passed through several line-up changes. But back to the self-titled debut. Frankly speaking I have examined this output from end to end and balanced different aspects, elements and details and my conclusion is quite clear. There is simply no weak point to discover. Straightforward genuine Black Metal, no gimmicks like flutes, lutes, female vocals or keyboards. "Taran" descends from BATHORY, HELLHAMMER, MAYHEM and DARKTHRONE, some kind of direct lineage. Of course the one or other riff may have been played already by someone, but TARAN have enough substance not to be passed as copycats. There is a cover of ‘Unsilent Storms In The North Abyss’ and at first time I did not notice the IMMORTAL cover tune. Which means the seven songs (plus intro / outro and cover song) are on the same level like the above mentioned bands. Black Metal in its purest form, I totally agree with that description by Odium Records. www.facebook.com/taranhorde, www.odiumrex.com
