I was in Detroit last New Year’s Eve and the now industrial wasteland, left behind by modern technology and globalization is where TEMPLE OF VOID was birthed. I am not a bit surprised by their sound having visited Detroit, I liked the city but the cold pierced me like a chilly reminder of what this city currently is. The wind is akin to the heaviness of TEMPLE OF VOID, from a nomenclature standpoint, yes, TEMPLE OF VOID play Death / Doom at its rawest form and manage to make it sound engaging with their brilliant songwriting. I really enjoyed listening to this release, not only does it showcase the band’s output from 2013 but it picks up some interesting choices of songs from their demos, bonus tracks, a tribute to CELTIC FROST, one 7″ and one Decibel Flexi Series. Each split apart by some time and you can hear the maturity in the band’s output, the band simply sounds better. Now, granted, I am a TEMPLE OF VOID fan but I am being as objective as I possibly can here. I want to highlight the track ‘Os Abysmi Vel Daath’ which the band has contributed to “Morbid Tales”, a tribute album to CELTIC FROST and my goodness, it sounds glorious! It sounds like an unholy winter praise for the masters and TEMPLE OF VOID make the song their own without any hesitation. They slay this from the start to finish with absolute ease and it sounds delightful. I absolutely love this take on the classic. All these non-album tracks are just as fine as the ones that made to their full lengths and again, I have to clarify I’m being as objective as I possibly can be. TEMPLE OF VOID have carved a very special place in the hearts of fans and these non-album tracks are no exception. Trust the sound, check out the Hammerheart store and get a copy of this delightful release. A brilliant sound, put together carefully in a focussed, dark package for all the fans to enjoy.
