THE CHASM

THE CHASM… a marked interruption of continuity… an abyss of eternal fall… with no boundaries to behold… and that is exactly what the music on this new album from this band is all about. No boundaries. Eleven songs of some of the most expressive, emotional and obscure invoking Metal one can get. Over an hour of music… and music only. Yes, there are no vocals to be found here. Their previous album was released eight years ago and it was an indication of this already, as half of the songs had no vocals on it as well. A very brave movement. Although I am sure this is not the first totally instrumental album of extreme Metal. I am almost sure this is the first instrumental album created that way to fit the overall concept. So, are the vocals something to be missed here? I am sure more than one will surely not get it and will criticize the album for that reason alone. Even if Daniel’s vocals were quite characteristic for the band, and he is a very good vocalist and writes quite interesting and complex lyrics, this album was conceived without it in mind. And once the wise and strong enough accept this as what it is, you are in for some of the best albums to be released this year. Music-wise nothing has changed and THE CHASM are still firmly rooted in bands like early MORBID ANGEL, POSSESSED, JUDAS PRIEST, HALLOWS EVE and VOIVOD to names a few… the way only THE CHASM can do. A music which defies categorization, beside extreme Metal. Two things are clear after listening to this album: the duo, core of the band since day one, of Daniel and Antonio, are also two of the best musicians in Metal nowadays. Daniel’s riffs are endless, with a mixture of melody, aggression and a lot, I mean a lot of emotion. He also handles bass on this one and let me tell you he does a great work too. And Antonio’s drumming here, without doubt, puts hims in the elite of Metal drummers. The production is impeccable for this work, and I am sure that although the controversy this will cause to be voiceless, I can assure you that it is the music that speaks here. Releases like these is what still makes some of us proud to be Metallers. More info at: www.facebook.com/thechasm.acerus, www.luxinframundis.com
