This is the follow-up to the highly acclaimed debut by this Black Metal hopefuls around drum-wunderkind evil Emil of MARDUK fame. And the panzerdivision should better watch out since THE LEGION is hot on their heels with this vital and aggressive assault! It’s not exactly easy to say what makes them stand out since their fast and melodic brand of Swedish blackness is far from innovative and most of it has already been done in quite a similar way by the likes of DARK FUNERAL or SETHERIAL. But by adding a lot of technical twists and turns and throwing in dozens of precise breaks into the ever-raging slaughter-fest they manage to sound fresher and less static than the aforementioned. And they also have the ability to incorporate some really majestic and epic passages into their diverse and well-crafted songs, best example being the mighty ‘Bloodgate’. The whole record is bursting with ideas and an enthusiasm that makes the last outputs of formerly great bands like NAGLFAR or LORD BELIAL look pale in comparison. A great sound with a clearly audible bass and a nice cover by Kris Verwimp round up this highly recommended album that finally puts THE LEGION in the first row of the Swedish Black Metal scene, beside grimmer hordes like WATAIN or FUNERAL MIST. “Revocate the agitator!” www.legion.nu, www.listenable.net.
