How many of you remember one of the best French Death Metal EPs titled “In The Maze Of Kadath”, put out by the legendary CATACOMB? Well, Mick, the man behind the one-man-project TIME LURKER, is the nephew of two members of CATACOMB! The name of the project is in fact inspired by a song by CATACOMB. Such a cool trivia and somehow it really thrilled me. TIME LURKER plays atmospheric Black Metal to perfection, leaning on to Blackgaze from time to time, the sound is absolutely soothing. It feels like watching a waterfall from the distance, the soundscapes built seem like a genuine reflection of deep questioning. I really enjoyed the layered sound of this release. “Emprise” is released by one of my favourite labels Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions, who have so far put out quality releases. I had to jump at the opportunity to review something from their stable. TIME LURKER’s music takes us deep into a process of thought that sometimes feels uncomfortable. I cannot explain it, but this music has an undeniable quality, like falling into a well that never ends. The project takes the opportunity to build up on layers of hopelessness by adding more of it. It is an absolutely phenomenal effort that doesn’t give the listener a moment of respite. If you like any variation of Black Metal, you owe it to yourself to check this release out, amazing on all levels. Recommended!
