TORMENT
Pain Is Transient, Failure Forever

Yet another band with the name TORMENT. Formed in Belgium in 1999, this group is pretty outstanding, however. What we have here is some brutal blasting Death with ultra-polished digital production and triggered drums. The performances (most notably the drummer, of course) are quite strong. The vibe they put out is interesting at times and I hear a desire to offer something atypical from the stereotypical expectations of the genre. They saw fit to embellish the moments between songs with strange interludes, including something that sounds like a dance music buildup without the pay-off, David Lynch movie samples – including Frank Booth from Blue Velvet getting wild and that pail-faced oddball from Lost Highway – and many ambient keyboard effects. The impression of the group is very strong to start, and they ultimately achieve an interesting record, despite a weak moment where they seem to want to play a melodic rock song but with a Death Metal sound.
