Left As Remains

What can you expect from a recording which was mastered at Sunlight Studios, Stockholm by the hands of Mr. Tomas Skogsberg? Guess what? Could it be old school Death Metal? 100 of 100 possible points, guys. TORTURERAMA’s first release, their demo CD "Left As Remains", has this sticker on it and therefore I can only say, respect to this sound. It’s typical Swedish old school Death Metal which those 4 (now 5) Belgium Deathers offer here. Again the influences are more than obvious and they name it themselves as Nihilist, Entombed, Carnage, Dismember, Grave, Desultory, Unleashed, Death Breath, Celtic Frost, Autopsy… What you read here is what you get. The beginning of this CD starts with a rather calm and atmospheric intro comparable to the intro of BOLT THROWER’s "War Master" album, just a little longer – little too long if you ask me (~2 Minutes)… The next 5 songs are a true dedication to old school Swedish Death Metal with highest appreciation of the crusty Death Metal of DISMEMBER – that’s the closest band from the abovementioned ones. In between all this old school Death Metal is a certain Death’n’Roll attitude recognizable, something a band as FURBOWL during their "Those Shredded Dreams" days implemented, though the crustier Death Metal form is prominent. Nothing highly outstanding here, but damned well performed and the perfect meal for the Death Metal crowd who likes it catchy and groove instead of blasting and grinding. Layout wise this release is presented in the best possible way designed by Trident Arts and that looks amazing, especially considering that this is their first release. In summary I can recommend this release to Swedish Death Metal freaks out there, nevertheless I wish them to be a little bit more original with their coming releases, but this is a good start – and a good start is a good start, even if it isn’t that original. The CD sells for 8 EUR, shirts for 10 EUR directly from the band, but ask at first as postage might be added.
