UNCANNY

UNCANNY made history themselves… Far from being recognized as Swedish DödsMetall, meaning sounding Sunlight-ish, these Avesta manglers came from the region of Dalarna, the region of the magic triumvirate UNCANNY, INTERMENT and FULMINATION. Former members Mats Forsell and Fredrik Norrman were protagonists in FULMINATION and KATATONIA as well, so this band definitely represents a milestone in the history of Swedish Metal. Moreover you can trace some more link-ties with other minor local bands such as CENTINEX and S.G.R. – a female band which represented the Swedish answer to DERKETA. The band started in 1987 as CICATRICATION and after an appearance on a local compilation tape called "Avesta Mangel Vol.I" they turned into UNCANNY and recorded a couple of real brutal demos by the names of "Transportation To The Uncanny" (1991) and "Nyktalgia" (1992), in the classic Swedish studio references of those times: the first at Sunlight, the latter at Gorysound… from Skogsberg to Swanö. Anyway the most rare item of their whole discography is their almost unknown split LP with ANCIENT RITES (limited to 500 copies), published by the Colombian War Master label, the same that published the classic bootleg entitled "A Tribute To The Black Emperors" Split LP 1994 with MAYHEM. The final chapter was the "Splenium For Nyktophobia" CD (1993, also as a very limited edition picture disc), released in different CD pressings by Unisound Records, the Greek label of Panos (ex-Decapitated Records). All of these releases got included in this double CD now, which also offers a booklet with lyrics, demo covers and old pictures. Besides the historical notes it can be said that UNCANNY’s musical offer could not be considered the most varied or original in the history of Death Metal, rather typical if you ask me, but their brutal as fuck touch has something unique with an incredible drum work by Ken Englund later enrolled in CENTINEX. To me the best tunes are those enclosed into the split. www.myspace.com/uncanny666, www.darkdescent.net
