Another spark that shone forth beyond the darkness of Metal emerged from the land of Latin America. Founded in Chile in 2008, VERDUGO has been claiming a genre that is an unholy fuse of Black, Death and Thrash Metal in ancient ways. Their aims to glorify the gods of Metal, the early periods of SEPULTURA, VOLCANO and MORTEM, can be seen clearly through their previous works, “Blasfemia Y Perversión” and “Altar Del Rencor”. With the new release entitled “Decay”, this Chilean extreme trio returns to the altars of a morbid blend of Death Thrash in their repulsive sound. Another recording that is immensely satisfying from maniacs who have been utterly devoted to their works since 2008. The impressions of “Decay” come and attack with the first proper track, ‘Words Create Reality’. Frantic guitar riffs imbued with searing solos here and there in an explosive atmosphere are what the listener can expect from the beginning. A song that is essentially brimming with dark energy. The destruction continues with ‘Mental Decay’, which could live up to its name. Another mountain of old school Thrash riffing and, surprisingly, diabolic grooves in favor of battering drums to allow the violent to take its toll. When ‘Subconscious Manifestation’ is playing in the background, one soon realizes that their genius is boundless. The legacy of their old masters craft really cemented itself into their own. The standout idea of having a short but effective HELLHAMMER-ish variation complements what came before. Likewise, the fourth track, ‘Profecias Paganas’, strikes like an enormous beast of prey that will have the listeners cornered. There is nothing they can do or escape from an abrasive style of music and ominous melodies. At this point, VERDUGO has delivered a wild and enjoyable Death Thrashy flair. The strength of each riff was never lost in the shuffle. All are remarkable and memorable and do not overshadow the remaining tracks, ‘Ocaso De La Ignorancia’ and ‘Decimated Souls’. With more than halfway to the final command of “Decay”, the song still flourishes like an everflowing stream. The aptly titled ‘Decimated Souls’, a different angle to unleash a destructive composition at the slightest raw edge in a way to keep the fire burning. Alas, the force has come to an end, but it is always a pleasure to end it in a morbid way. Through ‘Putrefacta Morbosidad’, VERDUGO exhibits that there is no rest for the wicked. Some extreme bands might end their album with a joyous stellar Metal song or epic song structure with a mid-paced or doomy tempo to please the listeners of everything from the first to the end. However, that is not how this Chilean extremist works. They are climaxing their latest recording with an equally blistering madness and vicious fury that is marvelously suited to their attribution and its initial materials. The music on “Decay” is quite enticing in the sense of a band that attempts to reach the same heights as their primordial Gods. That is something that can be proven through years of dedication. VERDUGO has existed as one of the few prime examples of an underground entity that can circulate on the same podium with their elders. “Decay” might not have an authentic identity, yet it is wholly addictive, which can only come from a band that believes in what they’re doing to the very bone. www.facebook.com/verdugochile, www.facebook.com/ibdc666
