VILES VITAE is a new horde from Lisboa in Portugal, who present their first EP “IV” after only two years of band history. The three-piece offers four very matured tracks on this first sign of life. The opening track ‘The Vortex Of Disharmony’ starts very ambient and atmospheric with samples of several noises and already indicates, where the journey is going to. When the guitars start to play and the intense drumming starts, you find yourself in an intense and ugly world somewhere between Funeral Doom and Suicidal Black Metal. Especially the intense caws of Vulturius really let the blood freeze in the veins. The fundament of their songs is classic and raw Scandinavian Black Metal, but the hellish trio incorporates a lot of other elements and a good doze of Doom into their sound and create quite a unique and varying mixture but still desperate as hell. ‘Sunless Redeemer’ continues with a hellish menacing atmosphere, intense instrumentation before the highlight of the EP, ‘Source Life Extinction’ spreads real slow darkness and slows down the pace by dooming the hell out of the listener. ‘Theory Of Deconstruction’ is the longest track on the EP and closes this intense first output with some harsh vocals combined with most aggressive and racing drumming and intense life denying riffing enriched by some really demonic choirs and intense noises. A really intense short trip and fans of Suicidal Black Metal and Funeral Doom worshippers should give these talented guys a listen.
