VORKREIST
Sigil Whore Christ
(Agonia Records)

It’s been 6 years since I have heard French Black / Death Metal torpedos VORKREIST last time. That’s when VORKREIST released their 2nd album, titled "XXIXA", being only a 2-piece act back then. Since then they have also released their 3rd record "Sickness Sovereign" in 2009, which has unfortunately slipped out of my radar for some reason or the other. VORKREIST’s 4th album in order, "Sigil Whore Christ" – and the first one for their new home, Polish Agonia Records, was just recently catapulted towards us, and it’s actually a pretty great listen in my opinion. VORKREIST have become a 5-piece act on their 4th recording, and not only they have become a bit more experimental sounding Black / Death Metal act but also seem to carry a fair amount of richer ideas through their malevolent and christ-nailing Black / Death Metal approach song wise. I don’t know whether this kind of musical development started to occur on the band’s 3rd record already but in any case "Sigil Whore Christ" turns out to be rich, experimental and much more mature sounding both sound- and production wise. As ever, VORKREIST do sound twisted and brutal, absolutely totally ripping and devastating – just like we all already know how they can sound, basing our know-how on primarily their history as an extreme Metal act. The most drastic change in them – or in their songwriting in particular, however, is the way how they have really taken their time to bring this unholy French Metal entity on a whole new level of extremity. I guess it has helped them to achieve that goal by making VORKREIST a full band – and not keeping it as a 2-man project band only. The guys have truly got a big n’ heavy wheel rollin’ for them – and thank Satan "Sigil Whore Christ" does sound the way it does. The band fuckin’ rips pretty much on every level – and I am kinda positive already by stating "Sigil Whore Christ" is their most satisfying record to date. All song titles are in Latin, sort of adding more sheer uniqueness and originality into VORKREIST as well. Each song on this release sets my ears on fire, so there’s really no need to underline any of them for any particular reason. "Sigil Whore Christ" is a true ace record from this French camp, of which both you and me can enjoy. I assume you aren’t any innocent choir boy any more, are you?
