Anyone out there who has been interested in American Black Metal the last couple of years??? I definitely did not care much about the US Black Metal scene and focused on the Death Metal underground, but I think it is time for a change of mind, because bands like SUMMON, IBEX THRONE, THORNSPAWN, BLACK WITCHERY and now WIND OF THE BLACK MOUNTAINS are so fucking great that American Black Metal may not longer be overseen!!! "Black Sun Shall Rise" is WIND OF THE BLACK MOUNTAINS’s second full-length CD and impresses by combining harsh Death & Thrash Metal riffs and rhythms, that remind me of MORBID ANGEL as well as KREATOR, with intense and grim screams. This hateful mixture is not only technically absolutely perfect, but also manages to create this unique raw and blasphemous Black Metal feeling many bands today are not able to deliver anymore (especially those from Scandinavia). Where a lot of Black Metal acts nowadays try to be extreme and provocative by using NS-symbols (Fuck those Idiots!) and tend to be musically ultra-primitive, WIND OF THE BLACK MOUNTAINS crushes them with ease by concentrating lyrically on the essence of blasphemy and hatred of all that is Christian. Songs like ‘Blackest Pitch’, ‘An Autumn Evening’ or ‘Frost Of The Diabolical Forest’ (incl. cool drum Intro) embody the power and drive of Death Metal and the intensity and darkness of Black Metal equally. Even the cover of SODOM’s ‘Blasphemer’ is very good and definitely beats LUCIFERION’s attempt at it. Death Metal fans who are bored by Death / Grind and consider Black Metal primitive should give WIND OF THE BLACK MOUNTAINS a chance, Black Metal maniacs bored by the European scene should love the honest, energetic and totally blasphemous style of this band.
