If you checked out the ACT OF GODS interview feature on our website, you will already be aware of the fact that this new French band consists of ex-members of the legendary MUTILATED, who used to release two killer demos back in the late 80s, early 90s ("Psychodeath Lunatics" and "Resurrected"). After the split-up both their guitarists, Michel and Eric, went on to form ABYSSALS (who released another self-titled demo masterpiece in 1994) before they unfortunately also disappeared into nothingness. Luckily the old MUTILATED bassplayer / vocalist Phil finally decided to give it another go in September 2001. He switched over to guitar, recruited former HIDDEN SIDE vocalist Ventylator and drummer Guillaume (who also used to play with ABYSSALS for a while) and ACT OF GODS was born! The band’s first musical sign of life is a four song demo, entitled "Dies Irae", which currently unfortunately is only available for promotional manners. But don’t worry too much – a limited edition of 500 copies will go on sale shortly! It actually would be a big waste, if this material wouldn’t get spread more effectively as it’s fuckin’ brilliant once again!!! Even though there’s only two songs with a proper playing time on here, that go beyond the four minutes mark (‘Act Of The Insane’ – with its ‘Chapel Of Ghouls’ like opening and ‘Soaked In Pus’, with a ‘Unholy Blasphemies’ meets ‘The Ancient Ones’ kinda feel to it), the rather short (1:56min) ‘Perverted Cross’ and the short instrumental outro are still of a similar class, nevertheless! ACT OF GODS play intense, brutal Death Metal, kinda close to what the guys already delivered in their previous outfits, which means, all worshippers of early MORBID ANGEL (up to "Blessed…") and the likes will certainly get a massive kick out of this! This is nothing like the new wave of highspeed technical Death Metal à la INTERNECINE, HATE ETERNAL, EXMORTEM and the likes, but crushing, speedy old school Death, performed by a bunch of experienced musicians, whose roots can easily be found in the first generation of this genre!
