The first thing that impressed me when I got that album into my hands was obviously the way it looked. A simple representation of a harpy (a creature from Greek mythology) in greenish black and the rest in stylish simple black, only including the lyrics (in Finish of course) and the line-up. This is how Black Metal CD’s were to look! Impressing nevertheless is also the musical content: Crushing Midtempo Black Metal (no blasts etc. here!) with darkest atmosphere and sometimes rather doomish and melancholic approach is the art that Ruoja, Malakias and Atoni bring forth here. Sometimes I think that this album could be compared partly to earlier efforts of PARADISE LOST or TIAMAT and this nevertheless is only a hint for the real blackness that this piece of art is offering – so this comparison fails anyway. In fact it is no surprise that this band derives from Finland. If you have ever experienced the wideness and long winters of Finland you might understand the infernal feelings that this concoction is invoking. Non-solid people should better listen to this music for its creeping self-destruction may leave real damages but any open-minded Black Metaller should check out this CD as I think that this could easily be his enlightenment. This is simply black – as black as the package suggests it. I’d like to see that band live but I doubt that they will one day play in Germany.
