ARCTIC SEA SURVIVORS

ARCTIC SEA SURVIVORS is an instrumental Doom / Post Metal band from Graz, Austria. I jumped at the opportunity of reviewing this, because I absolutely love the Doom / Post Metal space and ARCTIC SEA SURVIVORS do not disappoint. “The Longest Dawn (The Souls Burn In Everlasting Fires)” is the band’s second full length, released by Talheim Records. At nearly 58 minutes long, ARCTIC SEA SURVIVORS weave a narrative around desolation and the strain of the cold. The opening track ‘Enter The Realm Of Pana’ is the longest track of the record, clocking nearly 12 minutes, it’s safe to assume, if you’re making it to the otherside of this track, this album is for you. The band cautiously, slowly and steadily write words, take a moment to construct sentences and then finally once the layers are in place, they come together to push a wall of sound towards you. Armed with a sense of loss, coupled with a whiff of melodic twist, ARCTIC SEA SURVIVORS deliver a gentle, yet a resolute slab of Metal here. Normally, we’d expect Post Metal bands to have this outlook of a 10 ton heavy machinery lunging towards your skull, but ARCTIC SEA SURVIVORS do just fine, the songs reflect their thought process, it is like a story that wraps around all characters page by page and once done, slowly pulls their strings at the right time. This will make a phenomenal companion during winters, particularly during driving. Masterfully mixed, the gentle approach with the instrumentation is well captured and presented. I’d recommend you give this album some time and it will surely connect with you in some capacity unless you live in a place where the sun shines down at 50 degrees, I mean, that’s just hopeless.
