Like a dusty lullaby an intro leads into a record which finally should place the name of this band higher up in any international ranking, when it comes to bands which are playing a very own variant of crusting and itchy-sounding old school Death Metal. Especially in moments, when they celebrate their understanding of sharp-edged riffings, working like a saw and at the edge of the transitions to faster played passages, ATOMWINTER carry along a hint of a guitar-evilness like Jeff Hanneman had it in his early days with SLAYER. As well as these four bearded dudes from Germany also create this unique CELTIC FROST magic from time to time (‘Brutal Scriptures’ and ‘Catatonic Pathway’). Besides that, ATOMWINTER seem to have a perfect feeling for moments, when it’s time to let the Doom Death Metal take over in their songs, let the tempo slow down and let a groove of destruction do the work, while the voice of singer Florian is howling over the tough sound carpet (‘The Dark Void’ or the murderous ‘Cryptic Death’). His voice has also the ability to scream itself through the almost black and crusty wrecking-ball of a track, which in its peak even steps into the footprints of BATHORY with developing a hymnic passage (‘Sakrileg’). With their fourth full-length recording the band doesn’t need to shy away from comparisons with mighty ASPHYX or other big names out of that genre corner, especially not when you are ending your album with an monotonious and ultra-heavy piece of dangerous sounding Doom Death Metal (‘Born Into Iron Coffins’). What a great album. Everyone into that type of sounds should give it a try. You won’t regret it! www.facebook.com/atomwinter, www.facebook.com/trollzorn
