Looks like the ‘Panzerhexe’ is on the prowl again and that she won’t take any prisoners! This German battleship from Göttingen / Lower Saxony has been around since 2010 and even though "Iron Flesh" is already their second full-length, these dudes are completely new to me. Don’t feel mislead by that short cello intro, because right after that, ATOMWINTER marches into battle. On the following approximately 32 minutes, you’ll get everything you need when it comes to solid, old-styled Death Metal; doublebass action, low-end guitar sound, a raw but clean production, some nice leads here and there and a roaring beast on the mic whose vocal skills ranges from guttural grunts to aggressive screams. This four piece manages to mix up the best of British and Swedish Death Metal with a slight Dutch blend as well. For example the third track ‘Mörser’ comes up with some sort of GRAVE – like vibe that reminds me of their classics "Into The Grave" and "You’ll Never See", while other songs breath the spirit of bands like PAGANIZER (‘Tankbrigade’), BOLT THROWER to some extent (‘Iron Flesh’) or even UNLEASHED in their "Shadows In The Deep" era (‘Purify The Spawn’). All in all, "Iron Flesh" appeals to each and everyone that is fed up with all that billions of occult, reverb-ridden wanna-be Death Metal acts that are as entertaining as copulating snails. ATOMWINTER deliver some gloomy, uptempo Death Metal with some Doom parts and blasts as well, that brings my blood to boil and makes me wanna bang my head like a maniac! The only negative aspect to complain about, is the fact that three out of nine songs (‘Bloodcult’, ‘Purify The Spawn’ and ‘Another Pain’) are re-recordings of older songs. Minus one short but nice instrumental (‘Silencer’), we simply get just 5 new songs which is not that much for a full-length.
