AU-DESSUS are a pretty unusual band in the roster of premier French Black Arts label Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions. Not necessarily because of their music, but due to their origin. Despite their French name, AU-DESSUS (means “Above”) are from Vilnius in Lithuania. The EP “Mend” is the third release of the band after their untitled EP from 2015 and their first full length “End Of Chapter” two years later. Moreover it’s my first contact with the band, so I can’t compare this new EP to their older releases. Musically “Mend” is a perfect fit to the roster of Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions, both stylistically and qualitatively. AU-DESSUS are walking their path balancing between Post Black Metal and very atmospheric Black Metal. And they do it in a very skillful way without forgetting to write comprehensible songs with some harmonic moments in between. Songs like ‘Negation II’ or the pretty monumental final ‘Alienation’ are really whetting the appetite for more. And if you don’t have a fixation about trve and kvlt Black Metal but look for fine dark music, AU-DESSUS and “Mend” could be for you.
