AZARATH
Demon Seed
(Pagan Records)

Not exactly a new release, as “Demon Seed” came out in 2001, but it is only now that I can review it for you. Oh well, the underground moves very slowly at times anyway, and at least we are not bound by the market laws of surfing on the wave of the day towards the trend of tomorrow. Besides and like I told already in my WITCHMASTER review, the Pagan Records releases are not easy to get. Enough with that, and let’s talk a little about the music presented here. AZARATH is a Polish Death Metal outfit (yes, I know, another one…) and they surely know how to perform the most brutal way. Among the AZARATH ranks stand no less than Bart (one of the excellent guitarist of the mighty DAMNATION – the best Death Metal band on the whole pitiful piece of stone we call earth), the no less talented Inferno (a workaholic indeed, seen and heard drumming in BEHEMOTH / DAMNATION / WITCHMASTER), the line up being completed by the mysterious D on guitar and Bruno on bass and vocals. If you are an adept of the aforementioned DAMNATION (and I wish you are for your own sake!), it is absolutely pointless to read this any further, how much AZARATH is cast in the same mold, that is technical Death Metal with a very special atmosphere, more an inheritor of DESTRUCTION than of a certain Florida “mega-band” I refuse to cite here. Once out a short (and disturbing) ambient piece (‘Taedium Vitae’), you are left with 9 tracks of pure devilish Death Metal only the Poles, the Brazilians and some other freaks scattered on the surface of this planet are able to produce. Always looking for the sickest riffs possible, the AZARATH musicians reach excellence producing relatively short (as testified by the total running time) but perfectly crafted tracks, the best ones being the triangle ‘Awaiting Eternity Of Fire’, ‘Destroy Yourself’ and ‘Deathlike Silence’ because of their very twisted structures, in a LIERS IN WAIT meet DAMNATION fashion. I think I have made myself perfectly clear regarding the pure quality of this record. An absolutely essential buy! BRILLIANT!
