Beer, Metal, booze, leather, spikes and women. It all looks like Canadian trio BLACKRAT has seriously been thinking of the meaning of life – and for Metalheads like the lads in BLACKRAT are, I suppose the guys overall are somewhat happy with their own lifes there in Calgary, Alberta. It’s those little things in life that can actually make people happy, and at least for me it’s things like BLACKRAT’s debut album "Whiskey And Blasphemy" that can actually bring a good load of enjoyment for my lonely moments when concentrating on reviewing something worth your interest. These relentless, beer-smelling Canadian Metal warriors look uglier and dirtier than my underpants after a severe diarrhea and sound way meaner than neighbor’s lady for his husband, coming home after the midnight (and drunk as little squirrel of course). Seriously speaking, BLACKRAT have undoubtedly heard their VENOMs, MOTÖRHEADs, BULLDOZERs, early SODOMs and KREATORs and such – there’s simply no question about that. They have got a real rebellious Punk attitude, which many today’s Metal bands lack nowadays, they have got such lethal weapons in their hands that the most infamous terrorists would envy for, they have got a serious thirst for making uncompromising, denim and leather oozing underground Metal that makes Cronos and co. to shed some tears for some great past memories – and yet they know 100% how to sound entertaining to the bone. The opening song ‘Invocation Of The Horned Rat’ is kind of BLACKRAT’s own ‘Nowhere Fast’ by RAZOR, whereas on the other hand the album’s closer tune called ‘Dead On The Road’, indeed sounds somehow so darn familiar… and just make a wild guess why?
