CÓNDOR from Bogota / Colombia were formed in 2013 and now already present their first self-financed full length. This fine newcomer plays Doom / Death worshipping old BLACK SABBATH with a strong focus on 70s Rock but also influenced by classic Doom / Death like ANATHEMA or CATHEDRAL. Consisting of 2 members of disbanded VERTEBRAE the 3 guys managed to write 6 songs of highest quality Rock / Doom Metal within only one year. Influences of several styles can be heard, as I feel reminded of old LED ZEPPELIN and PINK FLOYD considering their rocky guitar leads or even RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS when it comes to their acoustic parts. But classic Doom / Death of the 90s like CELESTIAL SEASON, MOONSPELL or DOWN on the Doom side is the common theme of the album. The Rock influences are elegantly mixed with classic Doom / Death Metal, so the mixture sounds fresh and unique. All arrangements are well structured and carefully worked out and the grunts are mixed quite low, so they fit in perfect into their music and complement the whole sound. The acoustic parts merge into the Doom Metal parts very slowly, so the listener can close the eyes and simply follow their musical journey. ‘No Pudo La Muerte Vencerme’ and its nice Doom rhythm melody is a good taster for their material, as it is shows their musical skills and takes you on a melancholic ride. The listener feels their melancholic intentions and souls. The musicians have avoided to write calculated Doom Metal with classic borders and have composed their own vision of Doom Metal free of any profit thoughts. This makes the album interesting and fresh. The last time I enjoyed this kind of freshness was on an album called "Serenades" two decades ago. Now they need some label support to come up with a proper production. For more information check out: www.facebook.com/condorheavymetal, http://condormetal.bandcamp.com/album/nadia
