CEREKLOTH
Halo Of Syringes

A new release from CEREKLOTH should make me happy, if you judge my previous reviews for their former releases here. And for sure it did when I received it along with a cool shirt and some other stuff. The cover artwork is perfect for a Death Metal release, but when it comes to the music I was kinda disappointed at first. I mean, I expected brutal old school Death Metal, the way it was perfectly performed on their outstanding “Pandemonium Prayers” 7” EP. Now, on “Halo Of Syringes” it’s still Death Metal performed, but not old school, not brutal in the common understanding though indispensable tight and heavy, this could be interpretated as brutal, too, haha. So how to describe it? Can we agree to call it some kind of a Death Metal version of newer SATYRICON? I’m not sure if JBP (their vocalist and contact person) will be happy with this description, I feel kinda comfortable with it. The sound quality here on this new release – available on vinyl and MCD – is outstanding and the same goes for the performance. Above all you have the brutal and unique vocals of JBP. Three songs featured here, whereof the title track is a groove monster, mostly in slow tempo performed, which surely needs its time to get discovered. This song is a prove for it that this release is not a one time listening experience. You need to give it the time it deserves. And it deserves time! The last song on this recording is called ‘Detaching…’ and is a oppressive instrumental piece which is great and intense. At first, this release didn’t make me happy and I was disappointed, as I said, but this recording is a “grower” and once you figured out its real quality you will like it a lot. And objective judged: “Halo Of Syringes” is a killer recording, tremendously original and the best way for a band like CEREKLOTH to ask for the attention they deserve. Wait for their upcoming full length album which will be recorded soon and should be available in 2012. You can check them out at www.cerekloth.dk or through their myspace page at www.myspace.com/cerekloth. The 7” EP / MCD should be available through www.hellsheadbangers.com.
