Here we are talking about a band that was formed after the death of WINDIR… basically the tragic death of their leader… well this is their second album with the name, and if you were a fan of WINDIR or ULCUS (an ex-member plays here) well, you will surely like this. It is a melodic form of almost orchestral Black Metal, with some Power and Heavy Metal touches. The production is excellent and at times the dreamy overall sound seems to be a perfect fit for any epic battle themed movie. There are also some progressive touches not far away from what ENSLAVED or ARCTURUS did in some of their albums. Symphonic is definitely a word that comes to mind while listening to it, and although this is no Folk Metal, at times some riffs and music sound similar to bands that uses that tag. I think that the Black Metal shrieks are quite a bit contrast to the somewhat much more melodic music, maybe using different approaches will work better. And at least I consider the use of keyboards to be quite abundant, not that it is a bad thing per se, but I guess I am not into the symphonic extreme Metal that much… for me this music requires a special mood to appreciate more, I guess I am damned just to extremity and darkness without that much finesse like plain old “Seven Churches”. Yet, do not get me wrong, in the style, this is surely to be some of the best around and fans of the style can not go wrong getting this one. www.facebook.com/officialcorscorpii, www.darkessencerecords.no
