UK based DAMNATIONS HAMMER releasing their second album called “Unseen Planets, Deadly Spheres”, which follows the path of their debut “Disciples Of The Hex”, musically as well as lyrically. DAMNATIONS HAMMER fully dedicate their style of Doom / Death as an “homage to the avantgarde Metal of the 1980s.” to quote the band. For that matter I got to say it feels much uninspired. Though the riffing is in a way diverse and they act as if they would play and experiment around with noise elements and samples, to create something like a lost-in-space frame. But except for some delays and flangers plus very simple synthesizer ambient spaces it’s not too profound. You definitely feel the dedication to their music. But the main ideas are just too trivial to seriously call it avantgarde in any way. “Unseen Planets, Deadly Spheres” is more or less something between a very gloomy way of Heavy Metal mixed with some Doom elements but played in a very boring, predictable way. Not in a unexpected and therefore exciting style, more like million times played before. Same game when it comes to the lyrical work. It’s a mix between Lovecraft´s Necronomicon and unseen planets. In a nutshell, “Unseen Planets, Deadly Spheres” is a record with no surprises or unexpected moments. The sound is too thin to create a devouring atmosphere the riffing is too predictable to stand out. The whole record just feels too enforced.
