UK Doomsters DEA MARICA came to exist in 2012 – and during the very same year the band got a 5-song ‘EP’ recorded, titled "Ritual Of The Banished", containing over 40 minutes of music. The EP gained quite many praising reviews everywhere in the worldwide press, some predicting DEA MARICA to become the next big thing in Doom Metal, sort of. More was to follow – and now in 2013, their debut full-length effort "The Curse Of The Haunted" has been put out by Japanese indie underground label Weird Truth Productions, which is specialized for releasing Doom Metal albums. What "The Curse Of The Haunted" is, it’s strongly emotional, atmospheric and majestically moving Doom Metal, kind of like early MY DYING BRIDE laden Doom, "Towards The Sinister" and "Symphonaire Infernus Et Spera Empyrium" eras specifically. No kidding dear folks. The vibe and the feeling is about similar on DEA MARICA’s "The Curse…", basically the same way the Halifax based Doomsters MY DYING BRIDE successfully managed to put it into the chords in the early 90s. Within over 1 hour, DEA MARICA don’t really do any miracles in sense of bringing something totally new and unheard onto the large Doom Metal table anymore but still what they have accomplished on this particular record, is highly enjoyable and entertaining, British-flavored Doom Metal that promises a pretty nice future ahead of the band for sure. All those beautifully weeping guitar melodies, oppressive and crawling riffs, Roberto’s light and airy clean vocals yet dark and hate-filled grunts, etc., they all make this record quite a spectacular listening experience altogether.
