Here we have a reissue of some classic material by Canadian Thrash / Death Metal outfit DISCIPLES OF POWER who existed from late 80s until 2002, split-up, then reformed again in recent years. This is a reissue of their 1989 album "Powertrap" and these Canadians deliver a very technical Thrash assault on the senses. From the opening song it’s very evident that this quartet are extremely skilled musicians collectively unleashing a potent, powerful and precise barrage of razor sharp riffage, pounding and pummeling percussion, bulldozing bass bludgeoning and the vocals are a mix of more aggressive harsh deeper vocals, higher semi melodic shrieks and savage screams falling somewhere inbetween the vocal attacks of classic DARK ANGEL, HOLY TERROR and FORBIDDEN and there’s a lot of similarities to fellow Canadians SACRIFICE in the overall musical / vocal delivery. The lead playing is also very impressive with high octane lead breaks exploding out of the speakers every so often. Overall "Powertrap" is a highly energetic album which keeps the tempo on the faster / uptempo side of things for the most part with a solid production that enables each instrument to cut cleanly through the mix and soundwise has stood the test of time well. Even though the material on this album is very technical, with quite a few riff changes throughout, the band knows how to write catchy riffs and hooks which will embed themselves into your skull and strike a good balance between thrashing rage and technical prowess, much like the aforementioned SACRIFICE and HOLY TERROR as well as the likes of CORONER. An underground overlooked Thrash gem from the heydays of the genre. And for fans of the classic days of Thrash Metal there is also the added bonus of the 1988 "Power Of Death" demo.
