Like their label mates PREZIR the trio from Alaska released an EP last year and are now presenting their debut. After the first seconds with an epic and soundtrack like music I was on the edge of saddling my horse for into glory ride, but after a minute I was struck down by a massive riff. Doom Metal in its purest form, with that special slow and deep tuned riffs that makes your heart freeze. By the way, the band’s hometown is Anchorage in Alaska and that reminds me of the discussions about Scandinavian Black Metal and its inspirations from the environment or nature. With a yearly average temperature just short above the freezing point maybe you can not avoid playing Doom Metal. That thesis may be worth a scientific investigation ("How does the climate affects the local Metal scene?"). But for now back to the six songs from "Chants To Irkalla". The unique characteristic is the complete focus on genuine Doom Metal. No sub-genres can be found here, just the (slightly reverbed) grunted vocals are a reminder of Death Metal and during the track ‘Consort Of Sin’ some desolate high-pitched Black Metal screams are making an appearance, but that is all. Surely this reduced style may no please everyone, but if you like it simple but authentic check out DRUJ here www.facebook.com/druj-295196117579413, www.godzovwar.com
