DYING OUT FLAME

I am not sure if I have ever heard a band from Nepal, a country which is located at the feet of the highest mountain in the world and which any Metalhead will surely say that Metal must be inexistent there. But then again, Metal has no boundaries and yes, it can reach Tibet with force and thunder. The first thing to notice in their intro is an oriental sound, those that will transport to mystic Asia. No wonder the band called their style Vedic Hindu Death Metal. Comparisons to bands like RUDRA, maybe some newer BEHEMOTH and some NILE are valid, as the Death Metal part of the band is brutal yet semi technical Death Metal, with more than a touch of DEICIDE. The production values are also very good, and this makes a good surprise, although maybe I was expecting a rougher, more primitive production, to add more mystic to their origin. I must mention that the bass player does a very good job, besides delivering great vocals which spit venom. There are a few interludes in the songs where they mix some more traditional sounds, but at times, specially using the female vocals, they took away power from the sound. As a new band, I can sense that they are still looking for their identity and a better way to mix their local folk influences in their brutal Death Metal style. As it is, it is a quite good debut album, for fans of the aforementioned bands, that has a potential to grow into better things. www.facebook.com/dof.vedic, www.xtreemmusic.com
