ENEVELDE
En Gildere Død

With ENEVELDE we have another fairly new band from the always blooming Black Metal scene in Norway, in this case from Trondheim. This makes ENEVELDE a part of the Nidrosian Black Metal movement that is said to be the most interesting part of the scene in the last years. When I wrote “fairly new” in the beginning, it was to say that “En Gildere Død” is not the first release of ENEVELDE but in fact their third offering, all of them out on Terratur Possessions. The self-titled first album was unleashed in 2020, followed one and a half years later (December 2021) by an EP called “Gravgang”. To me, “En Gildere Død” was my first contact with ENEVELDE and I was not too astonished that the band is in fact a one-man project, the brainchild of MISOTHEIST singer B. Kråbøl. It is not much of a surprise either that ENEVELDE only has little in common with B.’s great main band. Of course ENEVELDE is Black Metal, yet of the atmospheric and even in some moments ambient kind. It was mainly WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM that came to mind listening to “En Gildere Død”, especially their earlier and rawer albums until about 2010. It would certainly be completely unfair to call ENEVELDE just a mere copy. Their approach is definitely different, as their sound has not just a touch of the spirit of Nidrosian Black Metal. In fact, the songs are dark, eclectic and full of unexpected turns. This makes songs like ‘Til Høsten’, ‘Renselse’ or the final ‘Epilog’ real adventures, leaving details to detect. If you like your Black Metal really dark, atmospheric and lasting, keep the name ENEVELDE and the album “En Gildere Død” in mind.
