Gravgang

It was just the other day that I had the pleasure to review the latest album “En Gildere Død” from Norwegian ENEVELDE. And today I am back at them for their EP “Gravgang” that was originally released in the end of 2021 and just now sees its first release on vinyl. Thus I have a fine reason to talk again about this interesting project from Trondheim, with MISOTHEIST singer B. Kråbøl as the only member. Those of you already a little familiar with “En Gildere Død” will surely find that “Gravgang” is even harder to catch hold of. The reason is that “Gravgang” is mainly settled in slow paced regions and comes along with an icecold guitar tone that reminds of a grinding disk saw. This not only makes the overall appearance of the album even industrial sounding, it also moves ENEVELDE for this EP a little closer to other bands of the Nidrosian Black Metal scene like MISOTHEIST or SALIGIA. On the other hand, this album still has a great atmosphere as well: cold, desolate and even destructive, like it was bred in a life-hostile environment. Definitely not the kind of music to listen to for a whole day, but great, when you’re in a mood for that. Especially ‘En Skal Ikke Tro’ and ‘Den Dypsindige’ are really hostile songs for hostile moments. The final cover medley of ‘Ærie Descent’ and ‘Funeral Marches To The Grave’, both originally by THORNS, just fits the mood perfectly. So, if you’re looking for music that destroys life and colours, you should look for ENEVELDE and “Gravgang”.
